BOTO JAM: Dominik Kisiel & Guests | Jazz Jam Session

BOTO JAMs are weekly Thursday meetings filled with live improvisation and leading artists from the jazz scene of Pomerania and all over Poland. To ensure the highest level of musical experience, each jam session has a different host who invites professional musicians to perform together. The host of the first May jazz Thursday will be Dominik Kisiel.

Musicians:

Krzysztof Pawłocki – guitarist and composer, graduate of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk in the jazz guitar class of Adam Palma, Konrad Zemler, and Maciej Grzywacz. He has collaborated with bands and artists such as Moa, 12 Kamieni, Basia Pospieszalska, Emilia Osowska, Marta Szefke Groove Band, Basia Kawa, Dominik Kisiel, Eva & Shandy, Jazzuj Panu cała ziemio, Horeb, and Mild. Leader of the band Jazz.u, with which he released two albums: Grigio (2018) and Eliyahu (2023). In 2021, he released his solo album Solo Sessions. Together with pianist Dominik Kisiel, he released Late Summer (2023), a recording of an improvised concert.

Michał Bąk – double bassist specializing not only in jazz but also in historically informed performance of early music and contemporary music. He is a laureate of numerous double bass and jazz competitions. As the leader of Michał Bąk Quartetto, he presents his own compositions inspired by early music and contemporary jazz improvisation, releasing two albums: Quartetto (2017) and Fortress (2021). Since 2020, together with Basia Pospieszalska, he has been arranging traditional Catholic songs in a minimalist form for voice and double bass. Their album Lenten Songs (Pieśni wielkopostne) was a finalist in the 2023 Folk Phonogram of the Year organized by Polish Radio. Over the years, he has participated in numerous projects, collaborating with artists such as Krystyna Stańko, Jerzy Małek Group, Adam Bałdych, Leszek Kułakowski, Leszek Możdżer, Dominik Bukowski, Wojciech Staroniewicz, Kari Sal, Kamil Piotrowicz Quintet, the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, and Capella Cracoviensis. He currently co-creates ensembles including {Oh!}Orkiestra, Holland Baroque, Goldberg Baroque Ensemble, Progress Chamber Orchestra, Michał Bąk Quartetto, MILD, a duo with Basia Pospieszalska, Dominik Kisiel Quartet, and Agnieszka Maciaszczyk Quintet.

Dominik Kisiel – pianist and percussionist, improviser, “seeker of vibrations,” and doctoral student at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. He strives to fully explore the sonic possibilities of the piano and searches for harmonic relationships that naturally create beautiful resonances. Improvisation is the most important aspect of his work—as a form of music therapy, a release of the soul, and a connection with the universe. Inspired by the legacy of improvised performances by Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau, he creates in a spirit of mindfulness toward both the external world and the inner life of a human being. Creator of original albums including STOP and Pieśni for solo piano, as well as the Dominik Kisiel Quartet project Pulse of Awareness, representing a current of modern improvised chamber music.
